Join Us for a Ketchikan Kayaking Eco Tour!
Enjoy roundtrip transportation from Downtown Cruise docks & the new Dock at Ward Cove. We drive north of downtown Ketchikan to the Clover Pass Resort featuring a much quieter, more local vibe and most days calmer waters and dryer weather. You’ll paddle with us on the protected ocean waterways of Clover Pass, circumnavigating two to three small islands featuring an immense array of inter-tidal life such as bright sea stars, a bald eagle’s nest, resident seals and sea lions and the potential to encounter many types of migratory birds, Sitka deer, Pacific porpoises, humpback whales and sometimes even orcas.
With a maximum of six guests to a guide our kayak tours are very intimate and educational. Taking such small groups allows us the benefit of spending more time on the water than other tours and no need to make you feel rushed through any part of your experience.
What really sets us apart are our guides. Our crew features local guides and/or professional educators with experience as commercial Alaskan salmon fishermen, commercial winter dive fisheries in Alaska, experience guiding dog sled tours and working many seasonal guiding positions across the country. The experience and personalities of our guides bring so much more depth to your experience with us than you’ll find on tours led by fresh summer seasonals experiencing Alaska for their first summer. No rookies on this crew.
Smoked salmon, salmon dip and other snacks (including vegan options), hot and cold beverages and a great view are awaiting you when we return to our scenic marina.
Transportation: Roundtrip transportation provided from the Cruise Docks Downtown & Ward Cove

Amazing, knowledgable guide made our trip!
Amazing, knowledgable guide made our trip! The crew at the Ketchikan Kayak Co. were so professional and the gear was top notch. Taking a kayak tour in October i was nervous we would be cold and wet or have to put uncomfortable gear, they have fantastic, new, waterproof bibs and jackets and even provided dry bags for our cameras and pogies to keep our hands warm. The sea lions, eagles and humpback whales all put on a show and we saw bald eagles in their nest.
Our guide made the whole experience feel safe and informational and was so patient with all of our questions.
The weather in town was so windy and rainy when we arrived, but it was so much better where they took us to kayak. We’re so glad we got in the van and got out of town with them!
Best tour on our cruise!

Cruise ship sold tours vs. Ours
There will always be low price tours for the masses sold on board cruise ships. However, we prefer smaller volume and a higher quality of experience. Our tours are far more private and educational, with local guides and a slow relaxed pace. With up to 10,000 tourists/cruisers in town every single day, there’s no need to bring a busload of them on tour with you.
Getting back to your ship on time
The cruise ships like to tell you ‘if you don’t book through us, the ship won’t wait for you if you’re late’. That is not entirely true, but regardless we have never been late in our entire 14 years. We know the ship’s schedules and how things operate. We are never late. Not only will you not be late, you will not be rushed or hurried before or after your kayak or e-bike tour. You’ll have a mellow, relaxing time, and we will get you back to your ship a minimum of one hour before your departure.
Kayaks tipping over
We do not have people tip over. We have never had anybody tip a tandem kayak on our eco-tour! Do what we ask and instruct, and you’ll find the kayaks so easy you’ll wonder why you ever worried about it in the first place. But even if you jumped out of your kayak, the water is plenty safe with temps in the 60’sF most of the summer. There is no ice or glaciers within many miles of Ketchikan. We are the warmest, most moderate place in the state.
Weather
Alaska is not all rough seas and ice. We are located on the Inside Passage of SE Alaska, which is a lush and dense temperate rainforest. A huge rainforest in Alaska, situated amongst thousands of islands and waterways, all protected from the open ocean.
Temps are in the 50’s and 60’sF in summer months. It rains, yes, but this is rainforest rain, typically light and misty. There are many days we feel the tours are actually enhanced by having misty rain. Our customers have agreed. You’ll definitely see more wildlife when it is overcast and rainy. We also have many clear days in summer, more than you’ll hear about, but complete blue sky sometimes brings wind and choppier water. Yep it’s a little backwards, but sun is the anomaly.
The call on weather is strictly ours. Remember we have been at this for more than a decade. If you will not have fun, we will not go. That is how we decide rough weather days. We cancel about two days a year due to weather.
Our advice on weather
Don’t worry at all about the weather. If we could ask one single thing of our customers it would be not to check the weather online before your trip. It will be inaccurate. We live here and know the nuances of the weather. We’ll take care of you. There are many micro-climates, and if it is raining sideways at your cruise ship, it could very well be really nice where we lead tours. That is why we get you so far out of town. We have an excellent tour location for almost all weather. Please don’t judge the day by the weather downtown.
Relax, you’re coming to one of the greatest spots on the planet. Don’t stress the weather. That’s our job. We provide all the rain gear you might need.
Rough water on kayak tours
Our tour location is about 30 miles in from the open ocean. No surf or ocean swell exists. We paddle right along awesome jagged shoreline with three short crossings, about ten minutes each, between islands. We are never ‘out to sea’ or at any risk of drift or currents. It is why we run tours where we do. Same as the weather, if you won’t have fun due to water conditions, we won’t go. It’s that simple. It is our call, but we don’t push it. We need you to trust us regarding water conditions and weather.
Bugs
Non-issue for all practical purposes along the rainforest coastline. The bug stories are from the Interior, not the SE Alaska Coast.
We are excited to offer the original electric bike & hiking tour in SE Alaska
Experience Ketchikan with Rainforest Hiking and Cycling with E-Bikes!
Join us for an easy and enjoyable electric bicycle ride on the road to nowhere, the end of our islands’ paved road system.
Ride with us on our new, peddle assist, electric bikes to where the road ends at the edge of extensive wilderness where you will then take a guided hike on an enjoyable trail through dense rainforest, across a stream featuring a beautiful waterfall and a late season salmon run. This hike features a wide array of flora and fauna and beautiful beach views from which we often watch seals swimming, salmon jumping and sometimes even get to watch humpback whales feeding near the shoreline or Orcas passing by. It’s always possible to see black bears along the ride or the hike but not guaranteed.
The bike ride is 11 miles roundtrip and the hike (in the middle) is about 1.25 miles but with a maximum of 10 guests per tour. All of our tours are intimate and very educational. Often times throughout the summer we are the only tour out at the end of the road. What really sets us apart though are our guides. Our crew features mostly local guides and professional educators with experience as commercial Alaskan salmon fishermen, commercial winter dive fisheries in Southeast Alaska, experience guiding dog sled tours and work in guiding positions across the country. The experience and personalities of our team brings so much more depth to your experience with us than you’ll find on tours led by fresh summer seasonals.
Smoked salmon, salmon dip and other snacks (including vegan options), hot and cold beverages and a great view are awaiting you when we return to our scenic marina.
Our tour has minimal walking, with seating for everyone. Recommended for people needing a wheelchair.

Fabulous Forest at the End of the Road
We were delighted with our E-Bike and Hike! First: the escape. We arrived in Ketchikan on a Sept. Sunday and there were 5 cruise ships disgorging more than 8,000 visitors. Ketchikan Kayak met us with a sign precisely where they said they'd be and whisked us away in their van. Just north of town we picked up the bikes and our guide, and pedaled off to a hiking trail in the Tongass Nat'l Forest. We were led us down trails, across nicely maintained boardwalk bridges, and over streams crowded with spawning salmon (with predatory gulls enjoying the feast). Our guide was fun and quite knowledgeable about all the tree species, the ferns, the mushrooms - we could not stump him with our questions. And, he had some excellent "tracked by a wolf" stories. After biking back to the van we enjoyed smoked salmon dip with crackers, cheeses, and cold drinks. An altogether ideal excursion, highly recommend!

Best Excursion in Ketchikan
Amazing trip! Picked us up right at the cruise ship docks on time and returned us back at exactly the time indicated on our trip - a relief when you need to catch a cruise ship in Alaska!!! The instructions/pictures on where to find them on the dock were excellent. The trip from the cruise ship docks to the marina where the bikes are located was about 20 minutes - easy, comfortable drive in a passenger van. Mary Grace, our guide, met us there. Bikes were brand new Pedego pedal-assist bikes. Helmets provided and after a review of the bike gears/pedal-assist panel, we did a couple laps around the parking lot to get comfortable and confirm seat height. Bike ride was on public roads but traffic was VERY light - felt really safe. Ride was hilly but with pedal-assist, it was an easy ride. There are two small waterfalls to see on the way so took breaks for pictures at each one. Then stopped after about a 5 mile ride at the state park. Trails at the park were VERY well maintained - almost the entire pathway is wood planked, not dirt, due to the wetness of the forest (a rain forest). You can go all the way down to the coast so there are a lot of stairs on the trail. Mary Grace was VERY knowledgeable and took us through the trails easily. Saw salmon spawning and amazing 700 yr old trees. Ride back was comfortable and easy. Mary Grace had snacks and drinks waiting for us at the marina where we left the bikes and helmets. Van ride back was comfortable and right on time - was never worried about making it back to the cruise ship! Would totally do this again - was a great day!

This was a fntastic shore excursion!
Our Tour guide Connor (Kohner?) was so awesome explaining all the important details about the wildlife in AK you can tell he is passionate about what he does which made our experience that much better! We even got an education on the Hovercraft we were riding in. Captain Ben with his awesome Hovercraft maneuvering skills allowed us each to be his co-pilot which was a blast! They really took the time & effort to make sure we all had a good time & saw some of the beautiful wonders of Alaska. I highly recommend this excursion! Excellent tour with professionals who care enough to make it worth your while! Thanks guys!💕 can't wait to visit again!🦅🐋🦭🏔💙
Enjoy a thrilling water adventure!
Your tour will start immediately at the cruise ship dock as you board your motor coach and enjoy a narrated tour of Ketchikan en route to Clover Pass Resort, one of the oldest operating fishing resorts in the State of Alaska. At Clover Pass, you’ll meet your captain and first mate before stepping aboard our enclosed jet boat. Prepare for a thrilling water adventure as your captain navigates through bays and inlets, while your narrator gives you insights on the land, the air, and the sea.
Aboard the boat, you will have the opportunity to see the abundant wildlife of southeast Alaska, such as eagles, porpoises, and seals. From May through September, whales are often sighted along the tour route. Your tour will make its way by the Back Island Naval Facility and into the heart of Grant Island State Marine Park and Silverking Lodge. You’ll find plenty to do at Silverking Lodge, including viewing the underwater dock camera, checking out the catches of anglers as they come and go from the lodge. Silverking’s exclusive elevated boardwalk trail allows you to walk into the normally difficult to access rainforest. Discover it’s secrets like Old Man’s Beard and nursery trees. At the end of the trail, be sure to have your camera ready for the largest known red cedar in the Tongass National Forest. Then, venture back to the lodge for a seafood boil including Dungeness crab, shrimp, mussels, clams, sausage, corn, garlic, pearl onions, and french bread. Last but not least, visit the gift shop where you can purchase memorabilia and look for your home to place a pin on the world map.

It just got better and better!
We did this trip as part of cruise excursion and truly had no idea what to expect. The boat trip, admirably narrated by a young member of the Silver King lodge family, was tremendous fun and very informative- we saw otters, bald eagles and an eagles nest as well as the US navy marine testing facility. The trip around the boardwalk in the rainforest was beautiful again escorted and narrated appropriately. The sea feast was amazing- seated around tables covered in newspaper we shared in a feast of Alaskan crab, shrimp, clams, mussels, garlic, Yukon potatoes and corn just upended on the table in front of us - with napkins, claw crackers and loads of relishes, sauces and unlimited drinks.
